Even the guardian is orders of magnitude more problematic than the AI.

The Antaran victory is so far out of short term reach in the patch that it's comical. On impossible, I find there's almost never a meaningful late game and the games are well decided by turn 150-200. Then I just return to my standard tactics. But, I find I simply bulk produce and turtle until I can bash a useful tech out of the hands of an enemy. I also enjoy the railroaded play of uncreative. I like the balanced play of the humans, if you don't completely break diplo. I primarily play on Impossible prewarp, but it is no longer very interesting. So you must design the ship with the best compromise. You want guns, armor, and engines but they all require space. In the game Endless Sky, an Escape Velocity remake of sorts, there's a clear relationship of naval battle. There's no relationship of fighting style to gear or great thought process. Now I simply blitz and lance the enemy or I blitz dump missiles or interceptors and run. The game was also charming in the late game large armada battles. Even bulked up high shield and armor ships were useful. I also enjoyed actually experimenting with the beam modifications. I was playing on lower difficulty and would fend off larger armies by having superior map speed. When I first started with moo2, I remember there being a lot of logistical counter-play. When you're hopelessly lost or just steamrolling the AI, I find there to be little entertainment value. I think most of us play these style games (homm3, xcom, eador, and even roguelikes) for those moments where there's high quality battle. I'm trying to play MOO2 in a way that brings back some of the gridlock and tactics to the game. I'm hoping for something that's a bit more targeted towards the blueprints only, and more.

I know the big comprehensive mod that change a lot of things that I can't remember the name of adds the secondary ships as blueprints and switches around their stats a bit. Is there a mod that adds a tonne of blueprint options to Conquer the Stars? Or one that. Daedalus is still one of my favourite space ship designs of all time. Borrow from other media, Star Trek 'Constitution' or 'Dauntless' for the Humans as a terrible example. I use a thesaurus a bit, latin or roman sometimes. Got me wondering what are some of your naming conventions for races/planets/ships etc? Might find inspiration. I guess you could say I RP a bit, and love naming various elements with a theme that fits the narrative I got going. Fired up a Bulrathi game today, haven't played their stock race, well, since MoO2 probably. I like Conquer the Stars despite some flaws. Heyo, some friends got me into MoO2 back in 99 I think it was.
